In our present world of media, we have experienced a degradation of singing into a ‘sports’ form. This style of vocal competition is maybe exciting to watch on TV on the one hand, but in the long run, it is toxic to all singers. The layperson wishing to sing may feel too intimidated to sing freely. Even the professional singer becomes burdened and too self-aware to experiment for fear of being ridiculed.

Singing is our natural birthright and a gift for us all to use in spiritual practice. We see a culture of singers who fall into the ‘game show’ categories of winners and losers. This downcast judgment robs the sincere soul of wanting to achieve the sacred act of singing freely. Happily, we can develop the spiritual gift of chanting. Trying to find your voice for the first time much less as a professional in the context of spirituality is both a noble and necessary step in our spiritual advancement.

Women, in particular, may feel ashamed or intimidated to sing freely and have been told when they were young they are not ‘good singers.’ These invisible ‘scars of silence’ can keep women in ‘silent mode’ for a lifetime.

Women of all ages (12 years and older) are invited to explore the potential for healing through chant and meditation.  We will explore what we can do as a community of women to release our “song” clearly and courageously together in a new time of spiritual communication.

Part One
Begins with a 50-minute training session to understand how your speaking and singing voice reflects your inward spiritual life. Discover why your voice (both metaphorically and physical speaking) can get blocked. Learn how to release vocal and emotional tension. Learn techniques to strengthen your voice in a friendly non-judgemental and non-competitive environment.

Part Two
The event continues with a 50-minute female community sing event. Experience a fresh connection to the Divine through vibrant and deep chanting, with drums, acapella voices and other instruments that help create an enjoyable summer evening.
